Antivirus is no longer enough
3 Nov 2022
I wrote this blog on the back of a recent customer visit.
During the meeting I explained how fatal a cyber-attack could be to their business, to which they replied:
“But, we have got a good antivirus, don’t we?”
Yes, they were right – they do have antivirus protection, however antivirus only knows what it knows and is not enough anymore and here’s why:
- There are too many attacks to defend against
- Many successful attacks remain hidden from sight
- Attackers are now using white-listed tools to bypass anti-virus product
Are you and your business prepared for change?
It’s clear that we are undergoing a period of rapid transformation – socially, culturally and from a technological perspective
The COVID-19 pandemic sparked a series of changes that are still affecting us now.
Cyber Security is one area that has been impacted, and there is new terrain to explore.
For instance, the transition to remote work has created opportunities for cyberattacks.
Additionally, fears surrounding the pandemic have allowed criminals to carry out phishing schemes and ransomware attacks more easily.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to a newfound reliance on the internet for people all around the world.
Being forced to stay indoors or practice social distancing has made online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams more essential than ever before, providing crucial methods of communication, education, and entertainment.
Is your business as protected as it could be?
As much as you think you are safe, you are not.
There is always a connection there that hackers can exploit.
For example, from the moment you step out of bed in the morning, until you go to bed at night, you are always connected to the internet (smartphone/watch/GPS etc).
Hence your company’s need for a SOC (Security Operations Centre).
It has now got to a stage where software alone is not enough – we now also need people to help with our defences.
What is a Security Operations Centre?
A Security Operations Centre is the next generation of managed security service, with a focus on real-time threat detection, threat hunting, and active response managed by a team of IT Security Professionals. The perfect combination of technology and people, working in sync.
How can I deploy a Security Operations Centre?
Prevention and perimeter protection is no longer sufficient to detect and stop cyberattacks. Neither is expensive, resource, intensive log analysis. Finally, organisations need response, not just recommendations.
Combining technology with a 150-person strong, 24/7/365 Security Operations Centre (SOC) is the best and most cost-effective way of protecting your network from cyber threats.
